DescriptionMaddox MPS Portable Reference Anode Electrode S/S – MPS.PRE12MAre your boat’s zincs (or other) anodes wearing out quickly requiring frequent replacement?  Do you suspect its the marina or your neighbor?  The only way to determine if your boat’s bonding system is functioning properly is to measure the voltage in the water around your boat.  Where to start?  First, be sure to clean all bonding connections in your boat with a wire brush and re-attach.  Second, you should measure your boat’s electrical potential in the water.  To do this, you will need a reference anode and a decent multi-meter!The Silver/Silver Chloride (Ag/Ag/Cl Reference Electrode is designed to be used to identify the electrical potential generated by metals in water like drive shafts, eye brackets or through hull fittings. Using those results you can determine a vessels optimum level of cathodic protection.Quickly and accurately check for signs of galvanic corrosionUsed efficiently with any good quality digital multi meter12 meter leadHULL MATERIALvM RANGEFibreglass-550 to -900Wood-550 to -600Aluminium-900 to -1100Steel-800 to -1050Non Metalic w/Aluminium Drives-900 to -1050How to check Use the MPS Portable Reference ElectrodeTo use an MPS Portable Reference Anode (PRE12M), first disconnect any shore power and onboard batteries for accurate readings, then lower the electrode into the water at the center of the transom, ensuring it’s at a similar depth as the propeller, and use the included lead wire to connect to your multimeter to measure the potential of the hull at different points; make sure the electrode is not touching any metal while submerged and take readings within a reasonable time frame after disconnecting power sources.  Key steps:Prepare the electrode:  Remove the protective wetting cap from the electrode.Disconnect power:  Turn off shore power and disconnect onboard batteries for the most accurate readings.Position the electrode: Lower the electrode into the water at the center of the transom, aiming for a depth similar to the propeller.Connect to multimeter:  Attach the lead wire from the electrode to the appropriate input on your multimeter.Take measurements:  Use a probe to contact the hull at various points, recording the potential readings on your multimeter. Important points to remember:Avoid contact with metal:  Do not allow the electrode to touch any metal surface while submerged.Read instructions carefully:  Always consult the manufacturer’s instructions for specific details on using your MPS PRE12M.Calibration:  Regularly check the calibration of your electrode to ensure accurate readings.Safety precautions:  Follow standard electrical safety procedures when working with electrical equipment.
